Entering the renewed campus of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, and approaching the entrance of the original building designed by Gerrit himself, one’s eye is immediately attracted and caught by an upright horizontal surface popping up just in front of the façade.

It’s a welcoming silkscreen printed billboard measuring 125 by 500 centimeters introducing our academy representing imagination as a sovereign territory. [...]

Serving as an open platform from the start the billboard has been advertising, announcing, campaigning, inviting, informing and commenting on activities and events going on and coming up in frequent turnover, changing swiftly again and again throughout the year from saying hello in September to waving goodbye in July and everything in between, year in year out, for more than two decades now.
