Het Nieuwe Instituut presents a publication following the Frankfurt Dialogues and the exhibition Maatwerk - Massarbeit at the Deutsches Architekturmuseum on Thursday 26 October.
In autumn 2016, the Flemish Architecture Institute, the Deutsches Architekturmuseum and Het Nieuwe Instituut organised four dialogues with around 20 architects in Rotterdam, Antwerp and twice in Frankfurt. The reason for these dialogues was the exhibition MAATWERK MASSARBEIT. Architektur aus Flandern und den Niederlanden, in which the Flemish Architecture Institute and the Deutsches Architekturmuseum looked back at the past 35 years of Dutch and Flemish architecture but also looked ahead in the 'Prelude' section. In the four Frankfurt Dialogues, architects included in the Prelude entered into conversation with each other, critics and litterateurs about their ideas, working methods and experiences about their architectural practice.
The publication contains articles by Bart Decroos, essays by Gideon Boie, Lara Schrijver, Daniel Rosbottom and Tom Avermaete and image fragments of the participating architects of the so-called 'weaving generation'. Together, they form a snapshot of a new architectural discourse developing in the Netherlands and Flanders.
